Review #151 - SMWS 71.83 "Amuse Your Bouche" - Glenburgie 10 Year
Situated near the River Lossie in Speyside, this is an unpeated single malt - a single cask, in fact - that was aged for 10 years in a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel.
Review #150 - Kaiyo Cask Strength
Like the other whiskies in the Kaiyo range, this is also aged in Mizunara oak casks, spending some time at sea in that process.
Review #149 - Balcones Lineage
Both new charred oak and refill oak are used, supposedly to blend the styles of Texas whisky and traditional Scottish single malts.
Review #148 - Kilchoman Machir Bay
The primarily ex-bourbon single malt from Kilchoman's standard range, although it does still employ a small percentage of Oloroso sherry casks in its recipe.
Review #147 - Deanston 12 Year
This is bottled at 46.3% ABV and isn't chill filtered, so we're getting nice specs from Distell, the distillery's owners.
Review #146 - Speyburn 10 Year
Using the Granty Burn water source and worm tub condensers, this spirit is supposed to be clean and crisp, but also weighty and rich.
Review #145 - Yellowstone American Single Malt
Many distilleries and brands are trying their hands at the American single malt category these days, with mixed results - will this be one of the good ones?
Review #144 - Westland American Oak Single Malt
They've been one of the leaders of the charge to formalize the rules for the American single malt category, pushing for standards such as a 100% malted barley mashbill.
Review #143 - Four Roses Small Batch
This sits between their entry level 'yellow label' bourbon and their slightly pricier Single Barrel and Small Batch Select offerings.
Review #142 - Russell's Reserve 10 Year
The real draw here is the value: many other 10 year old bourbons demand a huge premium price tag, but not this one.
Review #141 - Kilchoman Sanaig
The start of our love affair with Kilchoman - we found this bottle on our honeymoon, and it was our little treat for the week.
Review #140 - Ardnamurchan AD/
One of the great things about this distillery is their commitment to transparency - all of their releases are at a strength above 46% ABV, and there's no added coloring or chill filtration.
Review #139 - Ardnamurchan AD/ 03.21:02
Let's decode this name: 03 is the month of March, 21 is the year 2021, and 02 is the batch number in the year. So this was the 2nd batch of Ardnamurchan spirit released in 2021, which was blended and bottled in the month of March.
Review #138 - Rittenhouse Rye
The bartender's friend - of all of the whiskies we've discussed with bartenders over the years, none have been recommended more often than this.
Review #137 - Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Year
Young enough that the peat smoke influence will still be strong, but old enough to get a balanced, mature tasting experience with enough oak maturation.
Review #136 - Highland Park 12 Year
Up in the somewhat remote Orkney Islands, an archipelago located off the northern coast of Scotland, is the widely beloved Highland Park distillery.
Review #135 - GlenDronach 12 Year
This has to be one of the most hyped up distilleries that we've found through our online research.
Review #134 - Filey Bay Flagship
Due to specific wording in the current iteration of the English single malt rules, copper pot still distillation can be combined with column still distillation.
Review #133 - Royal Brackla 12 Year
We don't generally place much stock in the appearance of a bottle and its label, but we do like the look of this one a lot.
Review #132 - Kaiyo The Sheri
In addition to the sherry casks, this whisky gets the obligatory Mizunara maturation that this brand is known for; it spends three months at sea in these casks, which are supposed to impart a salty, seaside flavor to the liquid.
