1792 Full Proof Single Barrel - Wiseguy Lounge Pick 'Mr. Blonde'

USA - Bourbon

Price: USD 75 (2024)

Age Statement: 6 Years

Strength: 62.5% ABV

Details: Not chill filtered

Tasting Methodology: Reviewed 1 time; bottle at 90% fill level at time of review. Tasted in a nosing glass, rested 10-15 minutes

Nose: It's subtle at first, but baking spices dominate the nose: vanilla, caramel, some nutmeg as well. The oak starts off with a mild influence, but it grows much stronger with time; there's a bit of heat, too, even in the nose. Nutty notes grow stronger with air time, and it's relatively dry.

Palate: A medium-thick mouthfeel, and this is quite spicy in the beginning. Cayenne and oak combine for a kick, and there's orange fruit - both the flesh of the fruit, and some more bitter orange oil. Soft earthy notes are found in the background, and a little hint of red fruit comes through with a cranberry flavor; later, the oak adds some leathery notes.

Finish: Warming, with lots of cinnamon and wood tannins. Orange adds a little sweet dimension, but the oak continues to get stronger through the finish, keeping it a bit prickly. It's a medium length finish.

Final Note: A nice bourbon, but a little spicy and oaky, without too many sweet flavors to create a more balanced profile. It's oak-forward despite the relatively modest 6 years of maturation, though that could be a benefit at this price point if it's your preferred profile.

Value is okay - this isn't our favorite 1792 Full Proof pick, but it still comes in well under the $100 mark. For a high proof bourbon with decent oaky flavors, that isn't a bad deal.

Our Average Rating: 6.3 / 10

In the current whisky landscape of increasing prices and variable quality, we've added a value rating to our reviews that relates to the score and the available pricing of each whisky. This roughly equates to a 0-10 scale; no reviews so far have exceeded a score of 10, although it is technically possible for the formula to produce a value rating higher than 10 with a high enough score and low enough price.

Value Rating: 5.69
